The weekend began, as always, with Striders out at parkrun, both locally and further afield. Michelle M. continued her travels with a visit to Neale Parkrun in New Zealand, ticking off another international run. Back in the UK on Saturday, Striders were out in force at Downslink parkrun in Shoreham-by-Sea, where the club took over the event, with many members volunteering and supporting. Sally travelled to the Ushaw Historic House parkrun, enjoying a scenic but testing course, while there was also Striders representation at Littlehampton, keeping the local event well supported.
Sunday was a big day for racing and long-distance challenges. Several Striders took part in the Phoenix Run – Red Robin, a trail ultra event along the Downslink from Horsham, where runners could choose from a range of distances on a demanding off-road route. Some went further than planned and pushed beyond expectations. A huge congratulations to Becky and Ella, who both completed their first marathon distance — a brilliant milestone.
Elsewhere, Sarah C. ran the Brighten, paced expertly by Dan W., finishing in an excellent 49:57 minutes. A great team effort and a strong performance. Also on Sunday, Keith took on the Arundel South Downs Way Marathon, tackling a tough, hilly course along the SDW and adding another impressive endurance run to his portfolio.
Alongside the organised races, Striders were also out on social and training runs, with groups heading onto local trails and along the seafront, covering a variety of distances before coming together for a well-earned breakfast.
A fantastic Weekend of volunteering, racing, training, and supporting one another. Well done to everyone who represented Worthing Striders.
