Striders at WSFRL Tilgate Forester 5

It was another great turnout for Worthing Striders at Saints and Sinners Tilgate Forest 5 WSFRL race.  The course is a little under 5 miles and is an undulating forest trail.  Other than the bridge over a major road the whole course is offroad.  Road shoes are fine if it’s been dry, but the trails will be muddy if it hasn’t.
After the run a lot of us adjourned to The Walled Garden café in Tilgate Park and spent a sociable hour, or possibly 2 which involved comparing the merits of the coffee, cakes, burgers, chips and anything else we could forage from the café.

After the provisional results from this race Worthing Striders are placed 7th in the fun run league, which is much better than we have ever done as a club before.  Well done everyone whether you ran the race or came along to cheer on your clubmates.
I love the sociable aspect of the Fun Run League races, it’s probably where I get to chat and interact with more of my clubmates than anywhere else, and it’s a great way to get to know those of you who don’t run at the same pace as me.
I’ve mentioned how well we are doing in terms of position in the league this year, and that’s fantastic.  It’s the highest scoring runners in our club and up to 25 participation points each race that contribute to this score, though every single person attending each race either supporting or running has a share in the team spirit that has driven this amazing progress for our club.

Did you know that there are another two WSFRL awards each year?  After the Windlesham House race Worthing Striders were leading the field as the club with the most improved performance.

There is also recognition for the club with the most improved level of participation in the league, after Windlesham we were in second place for this.  EVERY SINGLE STRIDER CROSSING THE FINISH LINE CONTRIBUTES TO OUR PARTICIPATION SCORE.  The time you take for the race doesn’t matter, crossing those finishing lines does.  Let’s all make a big effort to keep up the momentum and keep the Highdown Hike after party going for the last three WSFRL races!
Next up is the Great Walstead 5 organised by Haywards Heath Harriers on Sunday 12 October.
