Striders New Forest Weekend

Another great weekend of running and laughter (and rain) in the New Forest.
Worthing Striders made their way in masse last weekend to the New Forest for the third consecutive year, for the Forest festival of running, with members participating in all the distances – 5k, 10k, half marathon and the full marathon. There were some great achievements, some PBs, and lots of cheering and celebrations, even in the rain and wind which held off (just) until the end.

This year only the bravest camped before the event.  But we were all there to encourage and motivate at the start, to cheer everyone in till the very end at the finish line, and to dry off and warm up at the pub afterwards.
Some great results, and some proud and happy Striders, with many achieving far better times than their goals, improving significantly on their previous year’s performance, or coming in the top finishers in the race.
And for one, it was their first marathon and yes, the rain held off for most, but not for all the marathon finishers or the cheering squad at the finish line.

But that didn’t seem to matter;  the beauty of the Forest, the ponies running across the moor oblivious of the race around them, the ancient oak trees and the streams and streams, bridges and fords, and most importantly the camaraderie and support of the Striders family, made this another unforgettable event.

Next year the club will look  at new venues for our away weekend, but for now, thank you, New Forest.

“It’s the motivation of turning up and having great training or great running routes to enjoy, that has made it possible to get an amazing time for me.”
